I love Halloween! My new favorite thing to do is to create costumes for my little one (Ollie!). This year, I chose the movie Drive and made the iconic scorpion jacket that Ryan Gosling wore.
First, I created the quilted look on the satin. After ironing a fusible batting to the back of the fabric, I made straight lines using blue painter’s tape and then stitched along the edge with a sewing machine.
There’s a great bomber jacket pattern for kids that you can find here. I was a little intimidated because I’ve never made a jacket before and don’t typically use patterns. The scorpion was hand drawn on wool felt, painted with acrylics and hand-stitched onto the jacket.
The gloves were made from a synthetic leather material and stitched entirely by hand. After three attempts at making these, I was able to adjust a glove pattern to get the fingers right (Ollie has lil’ sausage fingers like his daddy). I never realized how intricate gloves were!
Finally, here’s an adorable video that my husband made of our son wearing his costume and riding in his little blue buggy! I can’t wait till next Halloween!!!
